  • i’m not dead.

    June 24, 2009

Just wanted to make it known that I’ve not abandoned the blog…again. I’ve been swamped with work lately and have been having a rough time putting any posts together.

I will have some new work to put up in the coming weeks and I’ve got a slew of topics to talk about, so don’t lose faith.

In the meantime, you can always follow me on Twitter if you want to keep up with the cyberstalking.

  • stop trying to be a “real” developer

    May 25, 2009

After reading Marc Furano’s great (and really long) blog entry, How OO Almost Destroyed My Business, I had a similar epiphany much like he described.

I started in this industry much like Marc. I took a QBASIC programming class in high school and did pretty well…but never planned on being a professional web developer. I got very lucky. I was offered an internship developing Flash pieces and web sites for a very specialized online company that spawned into a near decade’s worth of a career. Everything I know, everything I’ve learned, has come from diligent self teaching, trial and error, and mimicking my web heroes.

They want Twitter accounts and Facebook Groups set up and expect thousands of followers and fans overnight. While I think it’s awesome that the commercial world is getting on board (finally) with the internet and its potential for mass advertising, there are a few things businesses need to consider before jumping in.

  • website relaunch

    May 3, 2009

After years of looking at the same old, boring website, I buckled down and rebuilt the thing. I decided for the sake of simplicity (and the fact I wanted to mess around with theme development) I built it using WordPress. I built this very minimal theme from scratch and it’s still a work in progress. I plan on adding comments very soon, a jQuery slideshow type deal for the work samples, a contact form so you can drop me a line, and a footer might be good.

Check back frequently as I have intentions of developing this into a real live blog with some fairly interesting stuff. I hope to pass on my insight into web development, online marketing, social networking, and lots of useless ramblings in between. It should be fun.
